Ruth Prins obtained a Masters degree in Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2007 (Policy and Politics) and at the VU University Amsterdam in 2008 (Governance of Public Safety). She worked as a PhD Researcher and an Academic Teacher at the department of Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2009 to 2013. Her dissertation is titled ‘Safety first. How local processes of securitization have affected the position and role of Dutch mayors.’

As of January 2014, Ruth is employed as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Public Administration at Leiden University, Campus The Hague. Ruth teaches both bachelor- and master courses in respectively Public Administration and Crisis and Security Management. Her research focuses on public safety governance, policing, local government, policy dynamics, agenda setting and framing. Ruth has published on integrated safety policies, community policing and the role of Dutch mayors in tackling new threats to local order and public safety.
